Jarvis Jones

School: Georgia
Position: OLB
Bio: USC transfer awarded all-America and all-Conference honors the past two seasons. Junior totals last season included 85 tackles/24.5 tackles for loss/14.5 sacks as well as seven forced fumbles. Sophomore totals of 2011 included 70/19.5/13.5. Suffered a neck injury during the eighth game of his freshman campaign at USC then was never cleared by program doctors to take the field again. Diagnosed with spinal stenosis at USC.
Positive: Playmaking, defensive front seven prospect who consistently impacts the game. Plays with excellent balance, explosive moving in every direction, and displays great force off the edge rushing the passer. Tremendously athletic, chases the action in backside pursuit, and plays with quickness. Effectively uses his hands to protect himself, breaks down well, and plays with good pad level. Goes sideline-to-sideline, easily gets out to the flanks in pursuit, and shows a tremendous closing burst. Plays much faster than his timed speed. Effectively uses his hands to protect himself and works them throughout the action to disengage from blocks. Fends off blockers with violent hand punch. Gets depth on pass drops and fluid moving in reverse. Shows ability in coverage and effectively makes plays in space.
Negative: Overwhelmed at the point of attack by large blockers or outsized by tight ends. Does not always seem to play with a sense of urgency. Lacks great size as well as growth potential.
Analysis: Jones is an impact defensive player who can stand up over a tackle, come out of a three-point stance to make plays up the field, or play backed off the line of scrimmage. He shows the ability to take over the action and plays with suddenness, explosion, and violence. Jones is a disruptive force who would be effective at the next level in a 3-4 alignment if he receives medical clearance and remains healthy.
