Dion Jordan

School: Oregon
Position: OLB
Bio: Former tight end who switched to defensive end as a sophomore, then was awarded all-Conference honors after his junior campaign. Totals last year included 44 tackles/10.5 tackles for loss/5 sacks. Struggled with a shoulder injury last season and underwent surgery after the combine. Junior totals included 42/13/7.5.
Positive: Explosive and athletic defensive end who is zipping up draft boards. Displays good speed in every direction. Fast off the edge as a pass rusher but still displays the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack without losing much momentum. Relentless pursuing the action. Uses his hands to protect himself. Plays with balance and good pad level. Covers a lot of ground. Fluid dropping off the line into space, gets depth on pass drops, and consistently makes plays in the open field. Easily flips his hips transitioning off the line in coverage, displays good speed laterally, and quickly gets out to the flanks to make plays. Smart defender who stays within the assignment and does more than just mindlessly rush up the field.
Negative: Lacks awareness in coverage. Must improve his overall body strength. Long-limbed and is susceptible to having his legs taken out by blocks.
Analysis: Jordan is a forceful defender who has developed into a three-down player in a 3-4 alignment. He offers starting possibilities standing up over tackle or coming out of a three-point stance on passing downs. Athletic and intelligent, Jordan has significant upside and should be an early pick in round one.
