Alec Ogletree

School: Georgia
Position: ILB
Bio: Three-year starter who totaled 111 tackles/11.5 tackles for loss/3 sacks as a junior while also intercepting one pass and breaking up five more. Suspended for four games last season after violation of team rules. Sophomore totals included 52/7.5/3 when he missed six games with a broken foot. Cited for a DUI in the state of Arizona prior to the combine.
Positive: Explosive three-down linebacker with a versatile game. Fast moving in every direction of the field and tremendous in pursuit. Gets depth on pass drops. Explodes up the field filling gaps in run defense, quickly changes direction, and catches ballcarriers from behind. Runs downfield with tight ends or running backs in coverage, displays a burst of closing speed bearing down on the play, and flashes on the scene out of nowhere. Quickly flows to the action laterally and shows suddenness. Covers a lot of area but at the same time remains disciplined with assignments and plays stay-at-home football. Slips blocks to get to the ballcarrier and very effective making plays in space.
Negative: Undersized, easily blocked from the action or gets caught up in the wash. Overmatched by larger tight ends. Has tackles broken. Overpursues the action on occasion and inefficient. Has several off-the-field issues, which will raise red flags.
Analysis: Ogletree is a three-down defender with the ability to lineup at middle linebacker or on the outside in a 3-4 alignment. He's terrific pursuing the run or dropping into coverage. Possessing all the skills necessary to start in the NFL, Ogletree must improve the details of his game and mature as a person to reach the potential scouts believe he has.
