Ricky Barnum

School: Michigan
Position: G
Bio: Moved into the starting lineup as a senior, playing 13 games at left guard with the first- team. Started three games the prior year.
Positive: Underrated and explosive zone-blocking prospect who is effective in motion. Fires off the snap into blocks and always looks for someone to hit. Stays square, plays with good pad level and gets leverage on opponents. Effectively uses body positioning to seal opponents from the action. Quick when asked to pull across the line scrimmage and keeps his feet moving. Blocks with a nasty attitude and works well with teammates.
Negative: Must improve the strength of his lower body. Struggles to finish blocks. Does not show great awareness and tends to lose a sense of where his quarterback is on occasion.
Analysis: Barnum is a late bloomer who watched his game take off last season and showed NFL scouts next-level potential. He offers possibilities as a zone blocker and should be a practice-squad player in 2013.
