Star Lotulelei

School: Utah
Position: DT
Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his junior campaign and named to numerous all-America teams as a senior. Totals last year included 42 tackles/11 tackles for loss/5 sacks after 44/9/1.5 the prior season. Began his college career at Snow College. Red flagged for a potential heart ailment at the combine, a situation later cleared up after extensive medical testing.
Positive: Big, physical defensive lineman with the ability to control the action. Plays with good pad level, keeps his hands moving throughout the action, and consistently focused on by opponents. Athletic, displays the ability to slide down the line then get outside the box to make plays. Possesses tremendous power, pushes blockers aside to get up the field, and easily holds his ground. Impossible to move off the point, fires through the gaps of the offensive line, and penetrates into the backfield to disrupt the action. Works hard to make plays and will get his hands up to knock away the pass if he cannot get to the quarterback.
Negative: Must develop more moves with his hands and become quicker disengaging from blocks. Just an average pass rusher.
Analysis: Lotulelei is a powerful defensive lineman who makes plays up the field or outside the box. He's a solid combination of strength, movement skills, and versatility. He offers possibilities at nose tackle, as a block occupying two-gap end, or defensive tackle in a four-man line. If healthy and given medical clearance, Lotulelei has the ability to be a longtime productive player in the NFL.
