Montori Hughes

School: Tennessee Martin
Position: DT
Bio: Three-year starter who began his college career at Tennessee. All-Conference selection as a senior after totals of 31 tackles/8.5 tackles for loss/4 sacks as well as 13 quarterback hurries. Junior totals included 30/6.5/1. Started at Tennessee as a sophomore in 2010 then was dismissed after the season for violating team academic rules.
Positive: Large, strong defensive lineman with the ability to be used at several spots upfront. Quick off the snap, displays good hand movement, and the ability to protect himself from blockers. Consistently doubled in the middle of the line but bull rushes opponents off the ball. Rarely knocked off his feet, controls the line of scrimmage, and displays the ability to quickly change direction then pursue the action down the line of scrimmage. Plays with explosiveness and flashes violent hand punch defeating blocks.
Negative: Possesses an average closing burst and marginal pass rushing skills. Slow getting off blocks once engaged at the point of attack. Wears down over the course of the game and was never ultra productive on the small school level.
Analysis: Hughes possesses the size, athleticism, and strength to line up at nose tackle or in the middle of a conventional four-man line at the next level. He's shown flashes of dominance and performed well at the Senior Bowl but has never been consistent about his game. Hughes has the ability to be a productive starter at the next level if he plays to his level of ability and hits on all cylinders.
