David Bass

School: Missouri Western
Position: DE
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-America and all-Conference honors since his junior season. Senior totals included 61 tackles/16 tackles for loss/11.5 sacks when he also intercepted two passes and broke up seven more. Junior numbers included 55/20/14.5.
Positive: Disruptive small school defender who offers potential at both defensive end and outside linebacker. Quick off the edge, effective when he plays with good pad level, and shows the ability to bend up the field or immediately alter his angle of attack. Quickly locates the ball, loses little momentum changing direction, and shows the ability to pursue the action laterally. Keeps his feet moving on contact. Naturally athletic and plays with both balance and body control. Explosive, plays with suddenness, and consistently focused on by opponents. Works his hands throughout the action and plays through the whistle.
Negative: Does not consistently play with leverage, getting tall and giving opponents an easy target to block. Easily washed from the action at the point of attack or knocked from his pass rush angle. Lacks overall bulk and playing strength.
Analysis: Bass has been a force since his sophomore season and continually improved his game, developing into a complete defender. He offers solid size, above average athleticism and possibilities at several spots in the defensive front seven.
