Steve Williams

School: California
Position: CB
Bio: Full-time starter the past two seasons, posting 80 tackles/3 interceptions/10 pass breakups as a senior after 44/2/11 the prior year.
Positive: Fast, athletic cornerback with an unpolished game. Keeps the action in front of him, quickly locates the pass in the air, and shows a burst to the ball out of his plant. Easily stays with receivers out of breaks. Mixes it up with opponents and fights hard to defend the pass. Tough run defender who quickly makes his way up the field and wraps up when tackling.
Negative: Lacks a quick, fluid backpedal. Loses momentum transitioning to turn and run downfield with opponents and does not play to his 40 time. Slow getting his head back around to locate the pass in man coverage.
Analysis: Williams improved throughout the 2012 season but is still a better athlete than football player. He possesses the speed and underlying skill to line up in dime packages at the next level and is worth considering in the late rounds for future developmental purposes.
