Darius Slay

School: Mississippi State
Position: CB
Bio: All-Conference selection as a senior after totals of 40 tackles/5 interceptions/6 pass break-ups. Part-time player the prior season finishing the year with 23/1/4.
Positive: Developing cornerback quickly moving up draft boards. Physical, mixes it up with receivers, and works hard to defend the throw. Shows skill in bump-and-run coverage, easily stays downfield with opponents, and shows a burst of closing speed. Quick up the field to defend the run, defeats blocks, and gets to the ballcarrier. Solid special-teams player who stood out on coverage units.
Negative: Lacks a quick and fluid backpedal. Slow getting his head back around to locate the pass in the air. Struggles processing assignments on occasion.
Analysis: Slay is a late bloomer who really came on as a senior then impressed NFL decision-makers with his combine performance. He offers a boatload of upside potential and could develop into a starter at the next level if coached properly.
