Patrick Edwards

School: Houston
Position: WR
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors since his sophomore season and named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2011. Receiving totals last year included 89 receptions/1752 yards/20 TDs for an average of 19.7 yards per reception. Also averaged 14 yards on 15 punt returns with another score. Junior receiving totals included 71/1100/13 after he posted 85/1021/6 as a sophomore.
Positive: Dynamic skill player who E(TM)s a game breaker as a receiver and punt returner. Fluid releasing off the line, immediately gets a top speed and is a legitimate deep threat. Consistently gets behind the defense, displays good eye/hand coordination and easily makes the deep reception in stride. Comes back to the ball out of breaks, quickly transitions from making the catch to running after the reception and displays skill picking up yardage after the catch. Shows a tremendous burst of speed in a straight line or laterally. Sells routes, shows quickness into breaks and stays low on exit.
Negative: Lacks a big frame and struggles in battles. Unnecessarily lets passes get inside him on occasion. Takes his eyes off the ball and peeks upfield before he's actually made the catch. Does not time well on the 40.
Analysis: Edwards is an explosive receiver who plays fast and shows the ability to stretch the defense every time he steps to the line. He's the perfect slot receiver in a vertical offensive, and his value is boosted by his ability to punt returns.
