Jake Byrne

School: Wisconsin
Position: TE
Bio: Two-year starter who caught a single pass last season for 14 yards last season after he had 5/43/1 as a junior.
Positive: Tough, slug-it-out blocking tight end who plays with solid fundamentals. Bends his knees, gets leverage on opponents and is strong at the point of attack. Turns defenders off the line as a run blocker or stays square and seals them from the action in pass protection. Moves well on his feet. Quickly releases off the line into pass routes.
Negative: Lacks speed and a downfield burst. Average hands as a receiver. Not a big part of Wisconsin's offense.
Analysis: Byrne is a one-dimensional blocking tight end yet is very effective in that single role. Unlikely to be drafted, the ability to be placed on the field as a short-yardage blocker could help him catch on as a team E(TM)s third tight end.
