Alston Umuolo

School: San Diego State
Position: TE
Bio: Senior totals included 8 receptions/82 yards/2 TDs. Played the first two games of the 2010 season before being sidelined with a hip injury. Full-time starter in 2009, posting career-best numbers of 22/243/3.
Positive: Athletic tight end prospect whose development was slowed by an injury in 2010. Quickly releases off the line of scrimmage into pass routes, immediately gets to top speed and displays a lot of athleticism on the field. Gets vertical in a crowd and easily adjusts to the errant throw, making the reception with his hands. Runs relatively well in every area of the field. Uses his frame to shield away defenders.
Negative: Average blocking skills. Struggled with his timing and balance last year.
Analysis: Umuolo is a well-sized tight end prospect who had previously presented himself as a natural pass catcher. He struggled for playing time at San Diego State last season due to the talent at the tight end position. Umuolo offers next-level skills and should get consideration for a practice squad.
