Monte Lewis

School: Jacksonville State
Position: OLB
Bio: Full-time starter the past two seasons awarded all-conference honors since his junior campaign. Posted 32 tackles/7 tackles for loss/2 sacks as a senior after putting up numbers of 37/4/6.5 as a junior.
Positive: Undersized college defensive end who projects to outside linebacker at the next level. Plays with good quickness, gets leverage on opponents and effectively diagnoses the action. Uses his hands well, quickly changes direction and competitive. Goes after ballcarriers and flashes skill chasing the action from the back side. Possesses a burst of speed and is effective the times he stands up over tackle.
Negative: Offers more of a short burst of speed that he cannot sustain. Struggles taking on blocks and gets easily out-positioned or turned from the action.
Analysis: Lewis was a solid and tough small school defender who could make it as an eighth linebacker in the NFL if he performs well on special teams.
