J.K. Schaffer

School: Cincinnati
Position: OLB
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors as a senior after leading Cincinnati in tackles with 114 tackles/12.5 tackles for loss/4 sacks. Also intercepted three passes and broke up six more as a senior. Junior tackling totals included 111/9.5/3.
Positive: Smart, tough college defender who lacks the physical skills for the NFL. Competitive, goes hard and very efficient. Takes proper angles to the action, effectively anticipates the action and remains disciplined with assignments. Quickly fills gaps up the field, aggressively takes on blocks and immediately diagnoses plays.
Negative: Lacks great size and gets controlled at the point by blockers. Not a strong or sturdy linebacker. Lacks the top closing burst to the play.
Analysis: Schaffer is a physical and intelligent defender who made a lot of plays with his instincts throughout his college career. He's limited by size and speed yet comes with a special teams mentality, which will give him a chance to secure a spot on a roster.
