Andrew Gonnella

School: Maryland
Position: G
Bio: Three-year starter who lined up primarily at right guard. Suffered a compound fracture in his leg during the fifth game of the 2011 season.
Positive: Tough small-area blocker with marginal upside. Plays with good lean, keeps his feet moving throughout the action and fights hard until the whistle blows. Shows strength in his lower body with the ability to anchor in pass protection. Works blocks hard and plays with a tough-guy attitude. Displays good vision and works to stays square, keeping defenders in front of him.
Negative: Not light on his feet and lumbers around the field if asked to block in motion. Narrow-based blocker and not a natural knee bender. Gets marginal movement run blocking.
Analysis: Gonnella is a hardworking college prospect with adequate size and growth potential for the next level. He has the potential to be a backup at both guard positions yet must prove he E(TM)s healthy after the gruesome leg injury he suffered last season.
