Michael Brockers

School: LSU
Position: DT
Bio: All-conference selection as a sophomore when he started 13 games and finished with 47 tackles/9.5 tackles for loss/2 sacks, also intercepting one pass and breaking up two more. Totaled 25 tackles as a redshirt freshman when he started a single game.
Positive: Large, imposing defensive lineman with some upside. Powerful with his hands and pushes defenders off the line of scrimmage with tremendous leg drive. Manhandles one-on-one blocking, displays good quickness and keeps his feet moving on contact. Focused on by opponents in the middle yet splits double-team blocks to get behind the line of scrimmage. Gets a lot of momentum going up the field. Plays with good lean, takes up space and occupies two or three blockers at a time.
Negative: Inconsistent off the snap. At times fires off the ball yet occasionally looks like he's stuck in mud. Does not play with consistent pad level and lets opponents inside him, neutralizing his power. Marginal burst of closing speed. Poor pass rusher.
Analysis: Brockers is an intriguing prospect with outstanding size, power and growth potential, but he's raw and rough around the edges. He offers tremendous upside for the next level as either a conventional tackle or a defender who could eventually line up at nose tackle. Brockers is slightly overrated heading into the draft, but he could develop into a very good NFL starter if he learns to consistently play with proper fundamentals.
