Taylor Thompson

School: SMU
Position: DE
Bio: Full-time starter the past three seasons after seeing action with the first team as a freshman. All-conference choice the past two years. Senior totals included 44 tackles/9.5 tackles for loss/8 sacks after he had 32/5.5/4.5 as a junior.
Positive: Tall, hardworking lineman who flashes skill. Plays with good pad level, immediately gets his hands up and effectively uses them to protect himself. Keeps his feet driving up the field on contact, fluid changing direction and displays the ability to get down the line of scrimmage. Occasionally used in space on zone blitzes and does a solid job. Smart football player.
Negative: Plays like an average athlete despite his workout numbers. Lacks great first-step quickness. Handled in one-on-one blocking situations.
Analysis: Thompson possesses the size/speed numbers to play at the next level, but he must improve his strength and elevate his game. He offers potential as a two-gap end and could also get consideration at tight end based on his athleticism.
