Matthew Masifilo

School: Stanford
Position: DE
Bio: Two-year starter after seeing sporadic action with the first team during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Senior totals included 34 tackles/8 tackles for loss/2.5 sacks after 33/4/4.5 as a junior.
Positive: Explosive, hardworking defensive lineman with marginal size/speed numbers for the next level. Plays with a tough guy attitude, effectively defends the run and does not give up an inch to opponents. Chases the action hard, displays skill pursuing plays laterally and keeps his pads low to the ground. Works his hands well, redirects off blocks and gets to the action. Fluid changing direction.
Negative: Marginally athletic. Lacks great speed in pursuit. Just an average pass rusher. Passion for football has been questioned.
Analysis: Masifilo is a nasty defender who plays disciplined, smart football and gets the most from his ability. He lacks the physical skills to start at the next level yet could be a valuable backup with the ability to play several spots on the defensive line.
