Janzen Jackson

School: McNeese State
Position: CB
Bio: Tennessee transfer who totaled 29 tackles/2 interceptions/3 pass breakups last season. Started his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Volunteers, winning all-conference honors in 2010. Sophomore totals included 69/5/11. Dismissed from the Tennessee program last August after reportedly failing multiple drug tests.
Positive: Athletic and explosive college safety who will also get consideration at cornerback in the NFL. Agile, flexible and fluid moving in every direction. Smooth flipping his hips in transition, easily moves about the field and covers a lot of area. Quick changing direction, displays a terrific burst of speed and plays with suddenness. Fast to the sidelines and has no problems getting outside the numbers to make plays. Shows skill in man coverage and plays with good instincts. Tracks the ball in the air, displays a sense of timing and can burst to the pass out of his plant. Stays active throughout the action and gets his teammates in proper position.
Negative: Lacks a physical game and is not aggressive defending the run. Tackles a bit tall. Lacks the size for safety and built more like the cornerback.
Analysis: Jackson was immediately productive as a freshman in Tennessee and watched his game take off before being dismissed from the program. He possesses the underlying skills to be used at a variety of positions in the defensive secondary and could develop into a starting cornerback in the NFL if he turns up the intensity against the run and stays away from off field distractions.
