Derek Newton

School: Arkansas State
Position: T
Bio: Junior college transfer awarded all-Conference honors the past two seasons..
Positive: Nice sized right tackle prospect who comes with good upside. Strong at the point, controls defenders once engaged, and easily pushes them from their angle of attack. Has a thick build, jolts opponents with good hand punch, and gets movement run blocking. Stays square, bends his knees, and seals defenders from the action. Keeps his head on a swivel and remains alert. Violently attacks assignments and works hard to finish.
Negative: Lacks great footwork in pass protection. Struggles blocking in motion and cannot hit a moving target.
Analysis: Newton possesses good size and growth potential and is a prospect who should get better the more playing time he receives against better competition. Newton is a solid athlete and a terrific developmental prospect who could eventually break into a starting lineup on the NFL level.
