Bio: Junior college transfer who totaled 43 tackles and intercepted two passes as a senior. Played in six games last year before being suspended for violation of team rules. 2009 totals included 73/1/2.
Positive: Aggressive defensive back who is best facing the action. Shows good route recognition in zone coverage, remains disciplined with assignments in centerfield, and effectively helps out cornerbacks. Quick up the field defending the run and wraps up when tackling. Displays solid sideline-to-sideline range.
Negative: Does not consistently take correct angles to the action. Marginally instinctive. Mechanical in many of his defensive back fundamentals.
Analysis: Prior to his suspension, Simmons displayed solid skills and an improving game. He could be used as a ninth defensive back in a zone system if he is focused on football.
