David Sims

School: Iowa State
Position: S
Bio: Junior college transfer who finished with 96/1/4 as a senior. Put up 88 tackles and five interceptions as a junior to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors.
Positive: Well-built safety who is best defending the run. Disciplined football player who works hard until the whistle blows. Fast up the field, displays a nice break to the ball carrier, and wraps up when tackling. Effective facing the action in coverage. Makes a lot of athletic plays.
Negative: Does not display great burst to the ball out of his plant. Late arriving on the scene in coverage. Does not consistently take proper angles to the action.
Analysis: Sims made an impact at Iowa State the moment he arrived and has been a solid college safety the past two years. He has limitations in coverage and would be best in a zone system or as a conventional strong safety.
