Joseph Lefeged

School: Rutgers
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior after posting 84/1/6. Junior totals included 44 tackles after 72 as a sophomore.
Positive: Tough, run defending safety best playing downhill. Fast up the field and plays with suddenness. Has an explosive burst to the action, works well with cornerbacks, and covers a lot of area. Solid special teams player and flashes ability returning kicks.
Negative: Marginally instinctive and too often gets caught out of position. Not a reliable tackler. Exploited by bigger opponents.
Analysis: Lefeged is a safety who runs hot and cold on the field displaying the ability to make big plays on occasion. He possesses the athleticism to be a dime back and a special teams player at the next level but must pull the pieces together.

Mark LeGree

School: Appalachian State
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference and All-American honors since his sophomore season. Had 49/5/8 as a senior, 70 tackles and seven interceptions as a junior, and 10 interceptions as a sophomore.
Positive: Opportunistic defensive back at his best between the numbers. Quick flipping his hips in transition, takes proper angles to the action, and covers a good amount of area on the field. Fluid moving to the sidelines, fast up the field in run defense, and always puts himself in a position to make a play on the ball. Terrific hands and wraps up as a tackler.
Negative: Does not display great speed to the flanks and has just a marginal burst to the action. Consistently a half step behind receivers in coverage.
Analysis: LeGree has been a record-setting safety on the small school level and always makes plays when the ball is in his vicinity. He possesses just average size/speed numbers yet could be effective in a zone type system.

DeAndre McDaniel

School: Clemson
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors the past two years while also being named as an All-American player after his junior season. Led the team in tackles as a senior with 76/4/5. Junior totals included 102/8/2.
Positive: Aggressive defensive back with good size. Athletic, works well with cornerbacks, and a hard hitter who intimidates anyone that comes over the middle. Quick up the field in run defense, shows a burst to the action, and has a good head for the ball. Physically strong, wraps up tackling, and brings opponents down on initial contact. Displays solid closing and recovery speed.
Negative: Does not show a great sense of timing, is slow reacting in coverage, and blows assignments on occasion. Gets caught out of position at times and relies on his speed to recover from mistakes.
Analysis: McDaniel was a solid college defensive back who has been overrated in many circles based on his production numbers. He has the athleticism and football skills to be used as a zone or strong safety at the next level, but he will struggle as a centerfielder if required to go sideline to sideline.

Rahim Moore

School: UCLA
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-American and all-Conference honors the past two seasons. Junior totals included 71/1/4. Sophomore numbers included 49 tackles and a nation-leading 10 interceptions.
Positive: Opportunistic safety with nice size. Plays faster than his 40 time and displays good range in center field with the ability to get outside the numbers to make plays. Plays with suddenness, flashes on the scene, and is smooth moving around the field. Has an aggressive style, gets up the field quickly and is tough defending the run. Lays his shoulders into ball carriers and has a physical style.
Negative: Slow moving in reverse. Is hesitant in coverage at times, falls asleep, and blows assignments. Inefficient, does not take proper angles to the action and gets caught out of position.
Analysis: Moore has been a productive safety the past three years but his statistics are misleading. He's a solid college defender who does not do the little things well. Moore would be best in a zone system but must be protected from the occasional lapse in concentration.

Davon Morgan

School: Virginia Tech
Position: S
Bio: First-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior after totaling 82/5/4 to rank 2nd on the team in tackles. Junior numbers included 47 tackles.
Positive: Solid run-defending safety who is best playing downhill. Fast up the field, aggressively attacks ball carriers, and throws his shoulder pads into the action. Displays skill in zone coverage and is effective picking up assignments facing the action.
Negative: Gathers into tackles and does more hitting than wrap-up tackling. Bites on play-action passes and is a bit of a late reactor. Does not have great hands.
Analysis: Morgan comes off a career season in which he showed terrific improvement on the field. However, he is an undersized run-defending safety who is best in a straight line. He must make his mark on special teams to stick on a roster.

Jonathan Nelson

School: Oklahoma
Position: S
Bio: Moved into the starting lineup on a full-time basis last season and posted career-best numbers of 102/2/7. Junior totals included 46/3/2 with three starts. Used at both cornerback and safety.
Positive: Versatile defensive back who is best facing the action. Displays a burst of closing speed, gives effort defending the run, and wraps up when tackling. Solid speed to the sidelines. Constantly around the ball carrier.
Negative: Shows indecision in his game and hesitates reacting to receivers moves off the line. One-speed defensive back who cannot recover. Average ball skills.
Analysis: Nelson significantly improved last season but possesses marginal size/speed numbers and does not have the ball skills to make up for athletic deficiencies. He's a special teams player and potential back up in a zone system.

Lane Olson

School: Wisconsin-Whitewater
Position: S
Bio: All-Conference and All-American selection as a senior after leading the team in tackles, posting 10/10/5.5. Junior numbers included 57.5/11.5/5.5.
Positive: Undersized prospect who plays bigger and faster than his measurables. Breaks down well, chases the action hard, and is forceful up the field on the blitz. Shows good awareness, is instinctive, and remains disciplined with assignments. Can flip his hips in coverage, uses his hands to protect himself, and quickly changes direction. Covers a good amount of area on the field.
Negative: Played linebacker in college, but he's small, easily controlled at the point, and can be taken from the action by blocks.
Analysis: Olson was an ultra-productive small school defender who got the most from his ability. Size is a limiting factor, but he has a special teams mentality and could find a spot at the next level as a backup safety, possibly in a zone system.

Antwine Perez

School: Maryland
Position: S
Bio: Posted 74/7/1 as a senior when he became a full-time starter. Totaled 45 tackles as a junior with one start.
Positive: Nice sized safety who displayed terrific development in his game last season. Fluid moving in reverse, smooth changing direction and has a burst of closing speed. Displays strength as an open field tackler, squares into ball carriers and brings them down on initial contact. Shows the ability to get outside the numbers to make plays and flashes on the scene. Plays faster than his 40 time and shows speed in a straight line as well as laterally.
Negative: Not forceful on the blitz. Does not consistently take proper angles to the action. Has adequate ball skills.
Analysis: Perez will be downgraded by scouts because of his poor 40 time, but he is a prospect who did nothing but make positive plays last season. He does not have a lot of upside but could fit as a zone safety/special teams player.

Frantz Placide

School: Wagner
Position: S
Bio: Two year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior after posting 40 tackles and breaking up four passes. All-Conference special teams player in 2009 after defensive numbers of 40 tackles with seven pass breakups. Also blocked six kicks as a junior and averaged 26.8 yards on 29 kick returns, bringing two back for scores.
Positive: Nice sized, athletic safety best making plays in the box. Has a physical style, flies around the ball and physically beats down opponents to defend the throw. Stays with receivers out from their breaks, shows a closing burst to the action and a hard hitting defender that goes after opponents. Outstanding special teams player that impacts the game in a variety of ways.
Negative: Inefficient, wastes a lot of motion and does not take proper angles to plays. Indecisive, slow to react and marginally instinctive. Does not possess great recovery speed.
Analysis: Placide is a terrific athlete that very much looks the part and often plays to it. He needs a lot of work on his defensive back skills yet the ability to impact on special teams makes his worth bringing into camp this summer.

Weight: 201

Chris Prosinski

School: Wyoming
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors after his junior and senior campaigns. Led Wyoming in tackles as a junior posting 108/2/5. Improved that number as a senior totaling 140 tackles and breaking up six passes.
Positive: Aggressive, run-defending safety who is best playing downhill. Fast up the field, shows a closing burst, and keeps the action in front of him. Takes good angles to the action, plays with an aggressive style, and is a hard-hitting defensive back. Shows good awareness between the numbers.
Negative: Slow pedaling in reverse, bites on receivers' moves, and displays marginal ball skills. Late getting to the spot in coverage and struggles with the fundamentals of the position.
Analysis: Prosinski was a dominant run-defending safety the past two seasons, but limited size and speed gives him marginal upside for the next level. He comes with a special teams mentality, which will be his ticket onto an NFL roster.

Mistral Raymond

School: South Florida
Position: S
Bio: Junior college transfer who has been used at both safety and cornerback. Senior totals included 56/1/7 after 40 tackles and one interception as a junior.
Positive: Aggressive, hard hitting defensive back who always works to get involved in the action. Plays with suddenness and aggressively lays his shoulders into ball carriers. Will mix it up with opponents throughout the route and physically beats down receivers to defend the throw. Displays a good head for the ball and quickly locates the action.
Negative: Lacks fluid footwork in reverse, struggles staying with receivers out of their breaks, and possesses just marginal ball skills.
Analysis: Raymond has shown steady improvement the past two years at South Florida and has the size and athleticism to make an NFL roster as a reserve.

Height: 6-2.5

Andrew Rich

School: BYU
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors after his junior and senior seasons. Totals last year included 110/5/8 after 85/4/3 the prior year.
Positive: Large, aggressive safety who is best between the numbers. Quick up the field, drives his shoulders into ball carriers, and wraps up tackling. Takes good angles to the action, displays a sense of timing, and keeps the play in front of him. Forceful on the blitz and sells out moving up the field. Plays heads-up football and works well with cornerbacks.
Negative: Possesses a marginal burst of speed. Not quick or fluid pedaling in reverse. Struggles with his ball skills.
Analysis: Rich is an instinctive ballplayer with limited quickness and speed. He has the makings of a potential strong safety but is a player who must make his mark on special teams.

Height: 6-4.5
Weight: 217

Robert Sands

School: West Virginia
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors the past two years. Junior totals included 53 tackles and one interception. Had 37/5/8 as a sophomore.
Positive: Big, physical safety who is best playing downhill. Forceful up the field, strong at the point, and reliable as a tackler. Hard-hitting and looks to intimidate opponents. Explosive, shows a burst of closing speed, and works well with cornerbacks.
Negative: Inefficient and does not consistently take proper angles to the action or play within himself. Doesn't change directions quickly. Has marginal ball skills and reacts slowly.
Analysis: Sands can be an intimidating force in centerfield, yet he is a long-strider with limitations in coverage. He's best suited to play a conventional strong safety position or in a system that puts him in the box.

Height: 6-0
Weight: 211

Tyler Sash

School: Iowa
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference and All-American honors the past two seasons. Junior totals included 79/2/2 after he had 85/6/6 as a sophomore.
Positive: Tough, intelligent defensive back who constantly positions himself to make plays on the ball. Instinctive, effectively diagnoses the action, and chases hard to get involved in plays. Quick up the field defending running or screen plays, shows solid range out to the sidelines, and plays heads-up football. Breaks down well and works his hands.
Negative: Does not display a great burst of speed. Has marginal ball skills. Lacks the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack or change direction without losing momentum.
Analysis: Sash is a heady football player who consistently puts himself in proper position and never gets beat. He's also a limited athlete with average speed for the next level. Sash would be best in a system that uses him as a conventional strong safety or places him in a zone defense. He should be an asset on special teams.

Da'Norris Searcy

School: North Carolina
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter who posted 37/4/4 as a senior and 35/1/3 as a junior.
Positive: Developing safety with a nice combination of size and athleticism. Displays good range to the sidelines, quickly breaks to passes, and possesses good ball skills. Shows awareness facing the action, fights hard to defend throws, and has a burst of recovery speed. Hard hitting, quick up the field, and squares into opponents. Flashes on the scene, stays with assignments, and possesses solid instincts.
Negative: Falls asleep and struggles in zone coverage. Is not a stout run defender despite his size.
Analysis: Since moving into the starting lineup at North Carolina two years ago, Searcy has continued to develop on the field and has the skills to be used as a center fielder or zone safety. He needs additional work on his game to smooth the rough edges yet comes with starting potential.

Height: 6-0

Davonte Shannon

School: Buffalo
Position: S
Bio: Four-year starter awarded all-Conference honors every season. Had 120/4/2 as a senior, 97/2/3 as a junior. Post 121 tackles as a sophomore, and 123 tackles as a freshman.
Positive: Aggressive, runs stuffing safety at his best playing downhill. Physical, fast up the field, and strong at the point of attack. Wraps up tackling and brings ball carriers down on initial contact. Plays heads-up football, effectively diagnoses the action, and displays good route recognition. Holds his ground against blocks and attacks ball carriers.
Negative: Lacks top sideline-to-sideline range, consistently a half step late arriving on the scene and displays poor ball skills. Lacks quick change-of-direction skills.
Analysis: Shannon is stout run defender who has been very productive on the college level. He plays bigger and faster than his size/speed numbers yet will have to play in a system that uses him as a conventional strong safety or as a dime back in a zone system. Has a special teams mentality that will give him a chance at the next level.

Mana Silva

School: Hawaii
Position: S
Bio: Former Oregon State transfer that started the past two seasons for Hawaii, winning all-Conference honors as a senior. Totals last year included 85/8/7 after 74 tackles with four pass defenses the prior year.
Positive: Opportunistic safety with nice size and speed. Effective facing the action, shows the ability to drive to the ball out of his plant and has a nice break to the play. Wraps up tackling and brings opponents down on initial contact. Fights hard to defend the throw, best between the numbers and possesses good hands for the interception.
Negative: Lacks suddenness in his game and indecisive. More of a straight-line defender that does not quickly change direction or effectively redirect to ball carriers. Over pursues plays and inefficient.
Analysis: Silva has done a terrific job the past two seasons and is a ball hawking safety that would be best at the next level in a zone system which reduces his lateral responsibilities.

Quick up the field defending the run and wraps up when tackling. Displays solid sideline-to-sideline range.
Negative: Does not consistently take correct angles to the action. Marginally instinctive. Mechanical in many of his defensive back fundamentals.
Analysis: Prior to his suspension, Simmons displayed solid skills and an improving game. He could be used as a ninth defensive back in a zone system if he is focused on football.

Negative: Does not display great burst to the ball out of his plant. Late arriving on the scene in coverage. Does not consistently take proper angles to the action.
Analysis: Sims made an impact at Iowa State the moment he arrived and has been a solid college safety the past two years. He has limitations in coverage and would be best in a zone system or as a conventional strong safety.

Erik Stoll

School: Montana
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior with totals of 82/5/5. Junior numbers included 98 tackles.
Positive: Aggressive run-defending safety who shows ability in zone coverage. Works hard to make plays, always willing to throw his pads into the pile, and active in run defense. Displays a straight line burst of speed. Effective in coverage when facing the action.
Negative: Late getting to the spot laterally. Gets caught up the field and out of position at times.
Analysis: Stoll was a hardworking college defender but possesses marginal size/speed numbers for the next level. He has a special teams mentality, which could help catch on as a ninth defensive back.

Jerrard Tarrant

School: Georgia Tech
Position: S
Bio: Started eight games as a junior, finishing the year with 55/3/2. Sophomore totals included 58/2/6. Did not play for Georgia Tech in 2008 after being suspended for seven months due to legal issues.
Positive: Adequately sized defensive back who has shown solid skill the last two years. Diagnoses the action, takes good angles, and shows the ability to get out to the sidelines. Smooth turning his hips, shows a burst of closing speed, and easily brings opponents down on initial contact. Strong and holds his ground against blocks.
Negative: Gets caught out of position too often. Struggled with a variety of issues that have sporadically kept him off the field two of the past three seasons.
Analysis: Tarrant is a good-looking safety who makes plays when he's on the field. He offers some upside but is very raw in many aspects of his game and will need time before he's NFL ready.

Height: 5-8
Weight: 205

Jay Valai

School: Wisconsin
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors after his sophomore season. Totals last year included 42/1/4 after 51/1/5 as a junior. Posted a career-best 56 tackles as a sophomore.
Positive: Fierce, attacking safety who plays bigger and faster than his size/speed numbers. Recognizes assignments, plays a physical brand of football, and flies around the action. Displays a sense of timing, gives it up in run defense, and has adequate coverage skills. Keeps the action in front of him and quickly locates the ball in the air. Relatively instinctive and plays smart football.
Negative: Average man-to-man cover skills. Undersized and loses out in battles.
Analysis: Valai is a short defensive back with average athleticism and will be dismissed by many because of his measurables. Yet he's a terrific football player who does the little things well and has enough ability to be an eighth defensive back/special teams player for a franchise.

Deunta Williams

School: North Carolina
Position: S

Positive: Big safety who flashes the ability to make plays sideline to sideline. Effectively helps cornerbacks and displays both closing and recovery speed. Aggressive, lays his shoulders into ball carriers, and quick up the field defending the run. Strong wrap-up tackler who brings ball carriers down at the point of attack.
Negative: Does not consistently take proper angles to the action and over pursues plays. Marginal burst to the ball out of his plant.
Analysis: Williams was a solid prospect prior to his ankle injury. Unlikely to be 100% anytime soon, he'll be stashed on injured reserve then reevaluated in 2012.

Height: 6-0

Fluid changing direction, shows a good head for the ball and works hard to get involved in the action. Wraps up tackling.
Negative: Marginal ball skills and late arriving on the scene. Does not possess the downfield speed to say stay with receivers. Often makes his first move up the field.
Analysis: Williams is a physical defensive back with an aggressive streak but shows limitations in pass coverage. He's a conventional strong safety prospect who may also get consideration from zone teams.

Justin Wilson

School: Southern Mississippi
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter who totaled 41/4/4 as a senior when he was awarded all-Conference honors. Junior totals included 67 tackles and two interceptions.
Positive: Athletic yet undersized safety with poor ball skills. Plays physical football, bumps receivers throughout the action and wraps up tackling. Works hard to get involved in the play and has a nice burst of closing speed. Quickly collapses to the outside in order to make plays.
Negative: Slow getting his head back around to locate the pass in the air. Shows a lot of hesitation in his game. Takes improper angles to the action.
Analysis: Wilson comes off a disappointing senior campaign after looking like a late round prospect during his junior season. He possesses cornerback size yet plays like a downhill safety which will make it tough for him to grab a roster spot in the NFL.

Height: 5-10
Weight: 210
40: 4.61

Justin Winters

School: Buffalo

Positive: Aggressive run defending safety who is at his best when facing the action. Remains disciplined with assignments, effectively reads the action, and is fluid moving sideline to sideline. Squares into tackles, wraps up, and brings ball carriers down on initial contact. Engages opponents at the line of scrimmage and remains disciplined with assignments. Is skillful in coverage when facing the action and has good quickness.
Negative: Not quick flipping his hips in transition and better playing downhill. Struggles in man coverage situations. Marginally instinctive and displays poor anticipation.
Analysis: Winters is a tough run defender who lined up at both safety and outside linebacker. He possesses the physical skills and natural abilities to make a roster as a backup strong safety.
