Ryan Williams

School: Virginia Tech
Position: RB
Bio: Former all-Conference performer relegated to just five starts last season because of hamstring issues. Sophomore totals included 110/447/9 on the ground with 10/109/1 as a receiver. Posted 293/1655/21 on the ground and 16/180/1 receiving as a redshirt freshman.
Positive: Explosive ball carrier with the ability to create his own yardage. Runs with good lean, displays terrific agility and the ability turn the corner. Shows vision and instincts and has a burst through the hole. Finds cutback lanes, bounces around defenders, and effectively sets up blocks everywhere on the field. Sidesteps opponents to keep runs alive and shows a degree of patience in his running. Runs with good lean and squeezes through small openings of the defense. Terrific receiver out of the backfield.
Negative: Lacks pure breakaway speed. Has struggled with ball security at times during his career. Not a strong back that breaks tackles or picks up yardage off initial contact.
Analysis: After a sensational freshman campaign, Williams struggled through the 2010 season with injury issues. He possesses a lot of skill for the next level, but does not project as a feature runner in the NFL. If he's able to stay healthy and get his game back on track, Williams is best as a rotational runner who can see spot duty with the first team.
