Steven Friday

School: Virginia Tech
Position: OLB
Bio: All-Conference selection as a senior after moving into the starting lineup and totaling 66/15/8.5. Junior numbers included 11/3.5/3.5 when he played in 12 games.
Positive: Athletic college defensive end expected to transition to outside linebacker in the NFL. Plays with good pad level, quick with his hands and fluid moving around the field. Rarely off his feet, easily changes direction and covers a large amount of area on the field. Quickly gets out to the sidelines or makes plays down the line of scrimmage. Constantly in the opponents backfield disrupting plays.
Negative: Cannot get off blocks, easily controlled at the point by single lineman and needs a clear shot at the ball handler to make the play. Does not play to his speed and shows marginal skill in pursuit.
Analysis: Friday is a late developing prospect that had good productivity last year and offers solid size/speed numbers for the next level. He needs a lot polish on his game yet is worth bringing into camp to be tried at a variety of linebacker positions.
