Matthew Freed

School: East Stroudsburg
Position: OLB
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference and All-American honors since his sophomore campaign. Totals last season included 120/14/7.5 after a career best 132/18/10 as a junior. Sophomore totals included 126 tackles.
Positive: Fluid and active small school linebacker with poor size/speed numbers. Breaks down well, displays terrific instincts, and the ability to make plays in space. Quickly changes direction, immediately redirects to the action, and is constantly around the ball. Fluid pedaling in reverse, collapses down the line to defend the run, and shows speed in pursuit. Occasionally stood up over tackle and fast up the field on the blitz.
Negative: Lacks bulk and handled by tight ends at the point of attack. Limited growth potential.
Analysis: Freed has been a tremendous small school defender and constantly makes positive plays on the field. He's built more like a strong safety and a move to the defensive backfield next season is possible if he shows the ability to play special teams.
