Brandon Ward

School: Elon
Position: OLB
Bio: Part-time starter the past two seasons primarily on the defensive line. Totals last year included 48/8.5/3 when he played in eight games after junior totals of 42/10/5.5. Suspended by the team in November after he was arrested on a misdemeanor count of assault.
Positive: Productive pass rusher with adequate size and growth potential for the next level. Fluid moving about the field, breaks down well, and plays with leverage. Works hard to make plays, effectively uses his hands to protect himself, and is strong at the point. Relatively instinctive and shows good awareness. Defeats blocks, is fluid changing direction, and has solid movement skills.
Negative: Heavy-footed and lacks a burst. Displays minimal speed in pursuit despite his 40 time. Average quickness in his overall game.
Analysis: Ward has made a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage the past two seasons, and he has the frame to add bulk and get stronger, which will improve his overall play on the field. He's a developmental prospect worth a look on the practice squad this fall.
