Bio: Junior college transfer who became a full-time starter as a senior, winning all-Conference honors with 99/3/7. Junior totals included 46/4/5.
Positive: Skilled defensive back who makes a lot of positive plays on the ball. Effective in man coverage, runs downfield with opponents, then reads receivers' eyes and gets his head back around to make a play on the ball. Gets vertical, adjusts in midair, and effectively defends or intercepts passes. Can stay with receivers out of breaks, has a burst to the ball, and plays a physical game. Displays good recognition of routes in zone coverage. Gives effort defending the run.
Negative: Struggles in battles and gets outmatched by opponents. Was Nebraska's nickel back and never a true starting cornerback.
Analysis: Gomes is a terrific defensive back who offers a variety of polished skills. He will do well in nickel and dime packages at the next level.
