Freddie Barnes

School: Bowling Green
Position: WR
Bio: Three-year starter who also saw action with the first team as a freshman. All-Conference selection as a senior and sophomore. Also named to several all-American teams last year after he led the country and established a new NCAA receptions mark after totals of 155/1770/19. Junior totals included 40 receptions. Initially led Bowling Green in receptions as a sophomore when he registered 82/962/9.
Positive: Strong, reliable receiver who shows the ability to take over games. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage, works back to the quarterback to make himself an available target and displays both focus and concentration. Effectively uses his frame to shield away opponents, keeps the play in bounds, running after the catch, and displays the ability to break tackles then pick up extra yardage. Extends to make the reception away from his frame, and comes away with some terrific one-handed receptions. Sturdy receiver who takes a pounding and holds onto the ball. Plays heads-up football.
Negative: Has marginal quickness and speed in his game. Slow getting off the line and cannot quickly get into breaks. Struggles to get separation.
Analysis: Barnes is a record-setting college receiver with adequate skills for the next level. He projects as a possession wide out who should have a role in the red zone. His lack of speed and quickness is a limiting factor, and Barnes may never be anything other than a fourth wide out for an NFL team.
