Mike Newton

School: Buffalo
Position: S
Bio: Four-year starter and All-Conference selection after his junior and senior seasons. Totals last year included 85/2/8. Totaled 112 tackles as a junior and 86 during a sophomore season.
Positive: Tough, run defending safety best playing down hill. Fast in a straight line, keeps the action in front of him and displays some suddenness to his game. Displays adequate sideline to sideline range and works well with cornerbacks. Hard-hitting and likes to mix it up.
Negative: Inefficient, consistently takes improper angles to the action and all too often comes up the field to quickly then gets caught out of position. Does more hitting rather than wrapping up tackling. Indecisive in coverage.
Analysis: Newton is a hard-hitting safety always willing to mix it up but a prospect who must learn to play with it himself. Offers special teams potential at the next level.
