James Lockett

School: Tulsa
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter awarded All-Conference honors as a senior after totals of 68/1/2. Also recorded 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Junior year included 82 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
Positive: Aggressive college defensive back best making plays up the field. Plays with a good degree of suddenness, flashes on this scene, and shows a burst of speed bearing down on the action. Breaks down well, bends his knees and works his hands to protect himself. Shows a lot of toughness in his overall game and works very hard. Effectively reads receivers eyes and gets his head back around to locate the ball. Strong tackler.
Negative: Possesses marginal ball skills, not smooth pedaling in reverse and lacks sideline- to-sideline range.
Analysis: Lockett was very productive in the Tulsa system, one which asked him to primarily play downhill. He plays much bigger than his listed size and offers a special teams mentality, which makes him one to consider in the late rounds.
