Positive: Well-built backfield prospect who can line up at running back or fullback. Displays good vision, works hard as a blocker and gets a pad on defenders to knock them from their angle of attack. Gives efforts of the whistle blows.
Negative: Marginal short-yardage runner who does not display much strength carrying the ball. Has been minimally productive the past two seasons.

Positive: Well-built ball-carrier with a complete game. Patiently waits for blocks to develop, shows the agility to turn the corner yet runs like a big back. Better-than-average footwork bouncing around defenders or piles, effectively follows blocks everywhere on the field, and shows a burst of straight-line quickness. Solid pass catcher with relatively soft hands. Slides laterally and shows good footwork in pass protection.
Negative: Runs with an upright style. Lacks the ability to quickly cut back, and loses a lot of momentum when he must immediately change direction. Seemingly a bit more tentative and did not run with as much power as a senior after the shoulder injury of the prior year.
Analysis: Anderson possesses the size, strength, and ability to make it as a third back on an NFL roster if his shoulder medically checks out.

Positive: Big, strong interior runner who previously displayed the ability to take over games. Powerful on the inside, finds the running lanes and shows a burst. Keeps his feet moving up the field, breaks tackles, and picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact.
Negative: Not a creative runner who makes defenders miss or has the ability to turn the corner. Fell out of favor with the new coaching staff and has seen minimal playing time recently.
Analysis: Anderson showed flashes of big-time ability as a sophomore yet has been buried on the depth chart recently. Should be given an opportunity in camp this summer, and if he is able to revert to form, he could find a way onto a squad as a teams third back.

Negative: Shows a limited burst in his game. Has suffered season-ending injuries two of the past three seasons and never truly established himself as a featured back.
Analysis: Asiata has terrific size/speed numbers, which he couples with solid running skills. Durability is a major issue and will raise red flags moving toward the draft. Asiata is trying to regain in his sixth year of eligibility on the college field, which would be his best route.

Positive: Hard running interior back with good vision. Effectively uses his blocks, finds the running lanes and shows power in his lower body. Solid pass catcher who extends to make the reception away from his frame. Picks up assignments in pass protection and shows footwork as well as the ability to slide laterally.
Negative: Shows just a marginal burst of speed. Minimal ability to create yardage.
Analysis: Baker showed a lot of skill early in his career before being sidelined with a knee injury for almost 2 full seasons. He's a well-sized back with solid running skills, yet he seems to have lost a lot of quickness and speed due to the surgery. Must pass medicals, but he could fit in as a third back at the next level.

Patient, effectively uses his blocks and weaves his way on the inside, picking and choosing his spots. Finds the cutback lanes, quickly gets through them and has a burst of speed. Beats defenders into the open field and then runs to daylight. Loses no momentum when he must immediately change direction, and easily beats defenders around the corner. Quick-footed, sets up defenders and then makes them miss. Slides to the inside and squirts through the small openings of the defense. Terrific pass catcher who lines up on the flanks and displays the ability to get downfield to make game- changing receptions.
Negative: Not a strong ball-carrier and easily brought down on initial contact or by the first defender. Stopped dead in his tracks by tackles. Recent rash of concussions will raise red flags.
Analysis: When healthy and at the top of his game, Best is as a gifted ball-carrier with great physical skills and running instincts. He beats defenders in a foot race or leaves them grasping at air with his elusiveness. His ability as a pass catcher is also an added value. The concussions suffered last season will make teams think twice about selecting Best early in the draft. He's a top-15 talent and will produce at the next level if he stays on the field.

Negative: Must display better awareness as a blocker. Shows minimal quickness in his game and cannot elude defenders. Poor pass catcher out of the backfield.
Analysis: Blevins has enticing size/speed numbers and has shown flashes of skill on the field yet never truly put together a complete game nor elevated his performance as scouts thought possible. Aggressively takes on defenders and keeps his feet moving, driving forward for the extra yardage. Breaks several tackles over the course of a single run, rarely brought down by just one defender, and drags the pile for major yardage after contact. He has defenders bouncing off him, falls forward when tackled, and is a terrific short-yardage runner. Patiently waits for blocks to develop, finds the hole, and displays the ability to sidestep defenders or avoid the pile. Extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame as a pass catcher. Plays with great explosion and quickness. Immediately gets to top speed and can turn it on in one step. Gives effort blocking.
Negative: Lacks the size to be anything other than a specialist and has no true position at the next level. Fast yet does not possess elite speed.

He also added six receptions and average 15.4 yards on five punt returns. All-Conference selection after his junior and senior seasons. Totaled 801 yards rushing and nine touchdowns while also adding 25 receptions as a junior after career rushing numbers of 279/1669/10 as a sophomore.
Positive: Small yet explosive skill player with the ability to score from any area on the field. Finds the running lanes, squeaks through them, and is a creative ball-carrier who makes several defenders miss at any given time. Quickly cut back against the grain losing little momentum, has a burst and slips off opponents to pick up extra yardage. Solid receiver out of the backfield, he has also shown flashes of being an explosive return specialist.
Negative: Undersized and easily brought down at the point of attack by a single defender. Has been injured for much of the past two seasons.
Analysis: Jarvis offers the potential to be another productive specialty player from the Kent State program. He's a situational back with return abilities yet must be medically cleared to play this summer.

Stafon Johnson

School: USC
Position: RB
Bio: Back-up tailback who played in four games as a senior, posting 32/157/5 on the ground. Suffered a severe neck injury last September in a weight-lifting accident and missed nine games. Posted career rushing totals of 138/705/9 as a junior.
Positive: Well built, between-the-tackles runner with solid instincts. Finds the cutback lanes, displays a burst through the hole, and shows power on the inside. Rarely brought down by the first defender, breaks tackles and picks up a lot yardage off initial contact. Works runs hard.
Negative: Loses momentum when he must quickly change direction. Lacks a true agility to turn the corner.
Analysis: Johnson has the size, speed, and skill to be used in a rotational system at the next level. He's unlikely to ever be a featured back for a team, but he has the potential to be very productive coming off the bench.

Deji Karim

School: Southern Illinois

Positive: Small, elusive runner who plays with a good degree of quickness and speed. Will pick and choose his way on the inside, gets through the small creases of the defense and follows blocks everywhere on the field. Patient, displays good running vision and shows the speed and agility necessary to beat defenders around the corner, and gives effort blocking.
Negative: Lacks strength in his running and rarely breaks tackles or picks up yardage off initial contact. Does not possess the size to be a feature runner.
Analysis: Karim watched his game take off last season after sitting on the sidelines in 2008. He's a productive ball handler with enough ability to find a home at the next level as a situational skill player.

Dominique Lindsay

School: East Carolina
Position: RB
Bio: Former rotational ball-carrier who became ECU
Positive: One time highly rated running back who suffered with injuries the past several seasons. Patient, waits for blocks develop and picks his way on the inside, finding the running lanes and squirting through the small hole in the defense. Runs low to the ground and underneath his pads, keeps his feet moving on contact, and works to get as much out of every carry as possible. Solid receiver out of the backfield. Effectively picks up blocking assignments.
Negative: Possesses average speed and not a back who beats defenders around the corner. Struggles to pick up the difficult yardage and does not break tackles.
Analysis: Lindsay has the skills necessary to be a potential third-down back or situational player at the next level if his knees check out.

Luke Lippincott

School: Nevada
Position: RB
Bio: Former safety who moved to running back as a sophomore. Posted career-high numbers of 1,420 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior when he was named as an all-Conference selection. Went down with a knee injury two games into the 2008 season and was lost for the year.
Positive: Strong, instinctive runner who displays outstanding vision and follows blocks everywhere on the field. Weaves through traffic on the inside, creates his own yardage and consistently finds the running lanes. Keeps his feet moving up the field, displays strength in his lower body and the ability to pick up the tough yardage between the tackles. Solid receiver out of the backfield.
Negative: Runs with an upright style, and makes himself an easy target for tacklers. Possesses just an average burst and quickness through the hole. Has a history of injuries that caused him to miss playing time.
Analysis: Prior to his senior season, Lippincott was rated as a potential late-round choice by NFL scouts and a ball carrier who could be used in short yardage situations. After his knee injury of last season, Lippincott must now prove he is fully healthy before receiving an invitation to camp.

Darius Marshall

School: Marshall
Position: RB

Positive: Quick, elusive ball carrier with poor size/speed numbers for the next level. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and displays outstanding running vision. Finds the cutback lanes, follows blocks everywhere on the field, and displays a burst through the hole. Very quick in his game, weaves through the inside and creates his own yardage. Slips off tackles, avoids defenders, and loses no momentum changing direction. Works his runs keeping his feet moving on contact or driving his shoulders into defenders.
Negative: Rather easily brought down at the point of attack by a single defender and shows marginal strength in his running. Lacks the speed to beat defenders into the open field or break plays open. Gives poor attempts blocking.
Analysis: Marshall has been very productive the past two seasons on the college level yet is not much more than a situational ball carrier for the NFL. He must improve his pass- catching productivity as well as his blocking to make the roster this fall.

Struggled with injuries as a sophomore and finished the year with 113/606/6. Freshman numbers included 145/866/14. He has averaged 6 yards per attempt on more than 500 carries the past two seasons.
Positive: Terrific running back who displays ability on the interior or outside of tackle. Finds the running lanes, will pick his way on the inside and creates yardage. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and displays good instincts carrying the ball. Keeps his feet moving on contact, squeezes through the small openings and keeps the play in bounds, working to pick up as much yardage as possible. Makes defenders miss, uses an effective straight arm to keep defenders away, and picks up yardage off initial contact. Has a burst through the hole and better-than-average skills cutting back against the grain. Solid receiver out of the backfield, displaying soft, natural hands.
Negative: Solid speed yet may not have the top and burst for the next level. Not a truly elusive ball-carrier.
Analysis: Matthews has been productive the past three seasons and is a running back who offers a lot of skills for the next level. He has the ability to be a featured runner for an NFL team and can quickly see action as a rookie this September.

Dexter McCluster

School: Mississippi
Position: RB
Bio: Two-year starter awarded All-Conference honors since his junior campaign besides being named to several all-American teams last season. Senior rushing totals included 181/1196/8 when he also caught 44/520 /3. Averaged 14 yards on two punt returns as a senior. Junior totals included 655 yards rushing, with six touchdowns and pass-catching numbers of 44/625/1.
Positive: Explosive multi-purpose player who's a threat to score any time the ball is in his hands. Plays with great quickness, explosion, and shows a burst of speed. Sets up defenders, makes them miss, and weaves his way on the inside carrying the ball. Incredibly elusive and easily creates his own yardage. Patient, follows blocks yet runs hard on the inside, keeping his feet driving up the field, working to break tackles. Displays some shake and bake in his run, finds the cutback lanes, and quickly gets through them without losing momentum. Plays with a great degree of toughness in his overall game as a blocker and ball-carrier. Solid receiver out of the backfield who extends to make the reception away from his frame. Presents himself as a downfield threat catching the ball. Runs sharp routes, stays low on exit then positions himself to make the reception. Displays good awareness on the field and has a nice sense of knowing what's happening.
Negative: Possesses size limitations and not a heavy-duty ball handler who can take a licking. Lack of height may be a problem as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Displays skill as a return specialist yet has been marginally productive in that area at Mississippi.
Analysis: McCluster is a terrific football player who gets the most out of his ability and causes a positive impact on the field. Productive handling the ball, he also does the little things well, helping the quarterback sell the ball fakes or blocking when called upon. McCluster should easily find a home at the next level as a specialty player who lines up in the backfield, out on the flanks, and is asked to return punts and kicks.

Positive: Elusive ball-carrier with the versatility to be used in a variety of roles. Will pick and choose his way on the inside, finds the cutback lanes and darts through the small creases of the defense. Sets defenders up, very slippery and makes several opponents miss over the course of a single run. Loses no momentum cutting back against the grain, keeps his feet moving and works runs on the inside. Patient, follows blocks everywhere on the field and displays the ability to create his own yardage. Runs with outstanding balance, body control, and quickness. Solid pass catcher and extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame.
Negative: Loses focus, concentration, and must improve his ball security. Needs to pick up the intensity as a blocker. Lacks the classic size wanted in a featured back.
Analysis: McKnight has been very productive in a variety of roles at USC the past three seasons. He has the potential to be productive in the NFL, yet he is more likely to do so as a situational skill player who is lined up in the backfield as a slot receiver and used as part of the return game.

Shawnbrey McNeal

School: SMU

Bio: Former Miami of Florida transfer who broke into the starting lineup last season then posted career numbers of 236/1188 4/12 on the ground, while adding 31/283/46 as a pass catcher.
Positive: Smallish, elusive ball carrier who creates his own yardage. Sets up defenders, makes them miss, and possesses explosive footwork that enables him to sidestep defenders or avoid piles. Very elusive, displays great quickness in his game, and follows blocks everywhere on the field. Runs with good lean and will pick and choose spots on the inside. Effectively reads the blitz then works to become the hot receiver out of the backfield. Solid pass catcher.
Negative: Cannot break tackles or pick up yardage off initial contact and easily brought down by the first defender. One-speed back who cannot outrun defenders into the open field.
Analysis: McNeal stepped up his game last season when given an opportunity and has the necessary skills to be a third down/situational back at the next level.

Positive: Nice-sized back with tremendous measurables. Runs hard on the inside, displays a lot of strength and carries the pile. Puts his shoulders into defenders and runs over them, picking up yardage off initial contact. Falls forward when tackled. Possesses an above-average or burst and rarely brought down by the first defender.
Negative: Struggles when he must quickly cut back against the grain and loses a lot of momentum changing direction. Must turn up the intensity as a blocker. Cannot elude defenders. Lacks the speed and agility to turn the corner.
Analysis: Miller is a physically gifted athlete who was slowed by injuries as a junior and struggled seeing action behind Ryan Matthews last season. He has the physical skills to contribute at the next level and can develop into a starting back for team if plays in the right system.

Grinds it out on the inside, gives effort blocking and is a smart player with excellent vision and instincts. Rarely brought down by the first defender.
Negative: Straight-line runner who loses a lot of momentum changing direction and lacks top-end speed. Does tend to run a bit all and makes himself an easy target for defenders.
Analysis: Minor did a solid job in his role at Michigan the past two seasons and can make it in the NFL as a short yardage runner who can also effectively block in the backfield.

Positive: Tough, interior runner whose game is on the upswing. Patient, waits for blocks to develop, and finds the cutback lanes. Displays a burst of speed, keeps his feet moving on contact, and powers his way up the field. Better-than-average speed for a bigger back. Will pick and choose his way on the inside, and shows the ability to sidestep defenders.

Positive: Hard-charging ball-carrier who plays bigger than his size. Runs underneath his pads, gets lost behind blockers, and is very elusive on the inside. Finds the cutback lanes, follows blocks everywhere on the field, and quickly gets through the running lanes. Better than average strength in his lower body, breaks tackles, and falls forward when tackled. Displays good footwork and the ability to bounce around defenders or piles.
Negative: Not a big-bodied ball-carrier who can handle the load or take a pounding. Marginally productive as a receiver in college.
Analysis: Nelson is a sleeper of sorts at the running back position and a skilled ball-carrier who makes the most of his talents. He'll have an opportunity as a situational back in camp this summer if he improves his pass catching skills.

Patrick Paschall

School: North Dakota State

Positive: Sleek, quick footed ball-carrier who darts around defenders and creates his own yardage, following blocks, displays terrific quickness in his all-around game, and makes defenders miss. Finds the cutback lanes, quickly gets through them, and shows a burst of speed. Runs with good lean, effectively helps the quarterback sell ball fakes, and displays speed and agility to turn the corner. Put together a solid week of practice during the Shrine Game.
Negative: Lacks strength in his game, does not break tackles or pick up much yardage off initial contact and was never much of a pass catching threat out of the backfield.
Analysis: Paschall is a smooth athlete with adequate running back size. Potentially a situational ball-carrier at the next level, he must really display pass catching ability out of the backfield besides adding elements such as return specialist to make a final NFL roster.

Plays with a good degree of quickness. Runs hard on the inside and gives effort.
Negative: Small, not a strong back and stopped dead in his tracks by the first defender.
Analysis: Porter offers potential at the next level as a situational runner or third-down back. Modestly productive catching the ball out of the backfield, he must improve the skill to make the final roster.

Gets a lot of momentum going when he squares his shoulders and then turns north/south, breaks tackles or picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Also displays the ability to weave through traffic and find the running lanes. Rarely brought down by the first defender. Gives effort as a blocker.
Negative: Lacks the speed and agility to turn the corner. Cannot beat defenders into the open field or run to daylight. Clavicle injury must be checked out.
Analysis: At the top of his game, Scott is a terrific prospect for a power running offense that prefers to pound the ball on the inside. He offers starting potential if he gets back to health and shows durability.

Negative: Not a strong back and easily brought down at the point of attack by a single blocker. Lacks classic running back measurables.

Negative: Not an elusive or creative runner. Very indecisive, displays limited toughness in his game and lacks the speed to beat defenders into the open field.
Analysis: Simpson has done well in his role at Virginia, yet he has no defined NFL position at this point. Can turn it on in one step, has a burst, and beats defenders into the open field, then runs to daylight. Sets up several defenders over the course of a single run, makes them miss, and easily bounces around piles, losing no speed or momentum when he must immediately change direction. Effortlessly cuts back against the grain, incredibly elusive handling the ball, and positively impacts games as a return specialist. Can score from any point on the field and is a threat to take it the distance whenever the ball is in his hands. Terrific pass catcher who makes the reception away from his frame with his hands. Occasionally lined up in the slot and make big plays downfield.
Negative: Does not work runs hard, easily brought down by the first defender and gathers into tackles. All too often finishes plays by running out of bounds rather than trying to pick up extra yardage. Gives poor attempt blocking.
Analysis: Spiller has been a dynamic skill player at Clemson the past three seasons and possesses the physical and football skills to immediately produced in the NFL. He plays soft and displays minimal toughness in his game, which will prevent him from ever becoming a featured ball-carrier in the NFL. Negative: Really cannot create yardage and struggles to make something out of nothing. Marginal quickness and speed in his game. Does not possess the skills to turn the corner. Coming off a serious injury.
Analysis: Starks is a well sized power back who plays bigger than his listed size and shows a good head for the position. A shoulder injury from last August will send up red flags yet if healthy Starks possesses the necessary tools to make it as a third ball-carrier.

Positive: Quick footed, elusive ball-carrier who plays with a great degree of quickness. Darts around defenders or piles on the inside, squirts through the small holes of the defense, and shows a burst of speed. Quick-footed, sets defenders up, and makes them miss.
Negative: Displays marginal strength carrying the ball on the inside for a bigger back. At times seems unsure of himself and does not display top ball carrying instincts. Minimally productive catching the ball.
Analysis: Williams is an adequately sized back who always seemed to be on the outside and looking in at LSU. He has the skills to make it as a third ball-carrier for an NFL team if he starts to run more decisively and plays to his size.
