HardyTop 53 NFL prospects from Conference USA.  Rankings based on 2013 league alignment as the conference undergoes a major change in 2014.

Notes:

Its usually a hit or miss affair with next level prospects coming from UAB. In fact more miss than hit. That said I do like the future potential of guard Roscoe Byrd who has the size and athleticism to be used in a motion blocking scheme.

Keep your eye on tight end Kennard Blackman. He’s been dismissed by scouts but has the pass catching and blocking skills to make an NFL roster as the third tight end.

East Carolina moves out of Conference USA to the AAC this season. The top prospect is receiver Justin Hardy, a player that’s been ranked on this site the past three years. Hardy is a polished receiver with a well rounded game. His poor size/speed number will depress his draft stock yet Hardy will play at the next level as a number three/four receiver who can line up in the slot or on the flank.

Scouts pay nose tackle Terry Williams little notice, which is unfortunate. On film Williams is a big, interior tackle who holds the gaps or uses his short area quickness to make plays on the ball. In my opinions he’s one of the better nose tackle sleepers I’ve broken down this summer.

Middle Tennessee linebacker T.T. Barber makes up for size deficiencies with great instinct and intensity. He flies to the action sideline-to-sideline making plays against the run and in coverage. The lack of height makes Barber scheme specific but I have no doubt the junior eventually makes an NFL roster as a situational linebacker/special teams player.

MTSU has a pair of junior safeties, Kevin Byard and Xavier Walker, who both flash next level potential. Both come with next level size and upside with draftable potential if they continue to improve on the field.

Early in his career Cyril Lemon caught my eye as a legitimate middle round pick but his game has leveled off. Watching him as a sophomore he showed strength on the line of scrimmage as well as the ability to block in motion. But watching the North Texas film from 2013 I saw a poorly conditioned, overweight and a wide bodied blocker that could not finish blocks.

Old Dominion moves to Conference USA and senior receiver Larry Pinkard really impresses me. The senior is not a field stretcher rather a quick, underneath receiver with a dependable game. I could see Pinkard making a roster as a fifth receiver.

At arms length I was impressed by Rice receiver Jordan Taylor in 2013. But when it was time to break down the film I witnessed a big bodied receiver who had lapses in concentration and was a poor blocker. Bottom line; right now a late round pick.

Its been a miserable two seasons for Southern Mississippi. As they try and turn their fortunes around this season keep an eye on defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who showed a lot of ability in 2012 but sat on the sidelines last season with injury.

Several scouts have stamped UTEP tight end Eric Tomlinson with a late round grade. I’m not so sure as the senior is a solid prospect yet not exceptional in any area. With that said I believe he has a chance to make a roster as a third tight end.
