Like many on the outside, NFL teams and general managers go through their own mock draft to get an idea how the first round will fall. This gives them a general idea who will be available once they are called to the clock and if they should entertain trade offers to move up or down. Based on conversations the past 24 hours here’s how a few team executives think some of the picks in the first round will play out.
St Louis Rams #2: The Rams will continue to shop the pick as they have been doing since February. If they cannot move out of the second slot a number of GM’s believe the selection will be tackle Jake Matthews.
Pittsburgh Steelers #15: Many people feel the Steelers could take a receiver. I’ve been on record stating the team loves Eric Ebron. The feeling in war rooms is Pittsburgh will snag cornerback Kyle Fuller at pick 15.
New York Jets #18: To date I have not heard much talk on the cornerback front which surprises me. The Jets have been purposely quiet with some comparing the lock down situation at Florham Park to Fort Knox. Two executives have receiver Brandin Cooks going to the Jets.
Green Bay Packers #21: As my friend Vic Ketchman correctly points out, general managers expect CJ Mosely or Ryan Shazier to end up in Green Bay. If Anthony Barr drops to 21 that would be extremely enticing for Pack and the expectation is defensive coordinator Dom Capers would push hard to select him. Should they trade down Weston Richburg will become the target.
Philadelphia Eagles #22: The two names that continue to come up in discussion for the Eagles are both receivers; Marquise Lee and Brandin Cooks. I’m also told they like both Hasean Clinton-Dix and Bradley Roby but the receivers are the names most passed around.
Cincinnati Bengals #24: The Bengals have worked out a number of first round targets but the name of Bradley Roby continues to come up as their first round target.
