Utah State has developed from west coast doormats to post season regulars. Fresno State must rebound from a difficult loss that knocked them from the ranks of the unbeaten a week ago. This contest could be one high scoring affair.
Derek Carr/QB/Fresno State: Carr will almost assuredly be compared to brother David, the first pick of the 2002 NFL Draft, yet the younger sibling has a lot to offer as a prospect. Ultra-productive at Fresno State, Carr is a vertical passer with good pocket presence and feel for the game. For the most part he makes solid reads and stays away from mental mistakes. In the past Carr lacked poise under pressure but he’s improved in that area as a senior. He has the necessary skills to start under center in the NFL and a good week of Senior Bowl practices next month could continue to push Carr north on draft boards. 2nd-3rd Round
Davante Adams/WR/Fresno State: Adams has been the primary recipient of the passes delivered by Carr and has shown dramatic improvement in his game. He’s a natural pass catcher who fights for the ball and usually comes away the victor. Adams is not a deep threat yet consistently gets separation in underneath coverage besides making the difficult reception down field on occasion. Very likely to enter the draft, he’s a solid middle round pick who could develop into a second receiver at the next level in the right system. 3rd- 4th Round
Tyler Larsen/C/Utah State: Larsen is all over boards as some scouts feel he’s middle round worthy while others believe he’s a free agent. My opinion parallels the former as Larson is a slug-it-out blocker on the pivot, plays with solid fundamentals and gets the most from his ability. He offers potential in a zone blocking system and could start at the next level in the right situation. 4th Round
Nevin Lawson/CB/Utah State: Lawson has been building a buzz around himself and has received high grades from scouts coming out of Logan, some who like him more than former teammate Will Davis. Graded as a free agent prospect, Lawson offers solid size/speed numbers and a developing game. 4th Round
