The Houston Texans are facing the possibility of some major changes this offseason. It’s possible, and maybe even likely, that Gary Kubiak isn’t brought back as head coach. The combination of his inability to advance in the playoffs and this year’s poor performance is more than enough to send him packing.

If a coaching change is made you can expect the new staff to move on from Matt Schaub, and for that matter Case Keenum. It’s obvious that the team’s most glaring need is at the quarterback position, but Houston may need some luck in order to land one of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming draft.

The Texans will be one of several teams picking in the early part of the top-10 looking to bring in someone like Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater or Oregon’s Marcus Maroita. While the jury is still out on whether or not either of these quarterbacks are franchise caliber players, there’s no debating the high number of teams in need of a new quarterback.

Houston’s plan should be straight forward in that if a quarterback they believe in is available they make the pick. Otherwise, they could look to add an inside linebacker like Alabama’s C.J. Mosley or a pass-rusher like UCLA’s Anthony Barr.

Barr would be an excellent choice to replace the struggling Brooks Reed who has tallied only one sack this season. Houston’s pass rush has struggled to replace the losses of Mario Williams and Connor Barwin via free agency.

Adding Barr in the first round would then allow Houston to focus on quarterback and offensive line in the later rounds. Alabama’s A.J. McCarron would be a great fit because this Texans team still has the talent to compete. McCarron is an NFL-ready quarterback who brings experience, poise and solid talent.

Adding McCarron would put the Texans back into the playoff mix while they evaluate his long-term potential.

Another intriguing option would be for Houston to orchestrate a trade to put themselves in position to draft Johnny Manziel.

Houston Texans Mock:
