It was another dynamic Saturday in college football last weekend and it looks as though it won’t stop there. Tomorrow offers an impressive schedule of games which will impact and the national rankings. Several of these contests also offer some great head-to-head match-ups between top NFL prospects.
Boston College vs Florida State
We’ve mentioned several times we think BC tackle Anthony Castonzo is overrated. At the same time we think FSU defensive end Markus White does not get the credit he deserves. Tomorrow could prove us wrong or could prove us correct as White’s speed off the edge will pose a challenge for Castonzo.
The game will also be an important contest for linebacker Mark Herzlich who will be challenged by the Seminoles small, quick ball carriers.
Maryland vs Clemson
A huge match-up as home run hitting receiver Torrey Smith faces off against Marcus Gilchrist and DeAndre McDaniel.
Maryland’s Smith has proven himself to be one of the best big play threats in the nation. For Clemson’s Gilchrist, its’ been a tough transition from safety to cornerback.
Texas vs Nebraska
Can the Longhorns move the ball against the Blackshirts? It may be tough.
Sources have told us Nebraska defensive tackle Jared Crick and pass rusher Pierre Allen are moving up boards. Cornhusker receiver Niles Paul will have his work cut out for him against a very tough Texas secondary.
California vs USC
Two of our favorite players battle head-to-head in this PAC Ten contest.
Bears defensive lineman Cameron Jordan is considered as a top twelve pick by some in the league, and with good reason.
He faces off against the Trojans Tyron Smith, the athletic left tackle who improved his power and has easily held down duties on the right side this season.
Ohio State vs Wisconsin
The Big Ten contest has national implications yet will also attract the attention of scouts around the country.
The times Cameron Heyward of Ohio State lines-up across from Gabe Carimi could be fantastic. The ability of the Badgers Nick Toon to produce against a talented Buckeye secondary will also be important.
Finally Ohio State has two young offensive tackles on the rise; Mike Adams and JB Shugarts. It will be their job to try and slow down Wisconsin’s immense junior, JJ Watt.
Mississippi State vs Florida
Florida’s talented offensive line has underachieved this season. So has Mississippi State’s Pernell McPhee. This game should be a turning point for someone.
