After some initial success in Ron Zook’s opening season its’ been a tough go of it at Illinois.  The program offers a decent number of prospects for the NFL, yet not many are draftable in our opinion.

Junior tackle Jeff Allen is a terrific pass protector who keeps his feet moving, adjusts to defenders and knocks opponents from their angle of attack.  Moving well on his feet if asked to block in motion, Allen is coordinated and displays good lateral blocking range.  He must improve the details of his position and take his game to another level, but he’s one to keep on the radar screen.

Senior tackle Ryan Palmer is well thought of in scouting circles. Palmer makes great use of his blocking angles, keeps his hands active and is strong at the point.

With the departure of Josh Price-Brent, defensive end Clay Nurse now ranks as our top prospect on defense.  The athletic Nurse covers a large amount of area on the field, chases the action hard and strings plays out to the flanks.  He plays with a good degree of explosion and displays terrific first step quickness. Nurse lacks natural bulk and is easily pushed from his angle of attack by single blocker yet has the skill set to be used as a 4-3 end or outside/rush linebacker in a 3-4.
