News & Rumors: Rodgers, Tannehill, Mayfield

Rodgers will stay with the Packers

Aaron Rodgers

Matt Lafleur doesn’t know if Aaron Rodgers will play for the Packers next season.

This week, the Green Bay head coach told reporters that Rodgers played a “significant role” in hiring quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, 68, who had previously worked for the club.

When asked, “I guess you feel good about the fact that Aaron is staying on the team since he fit into this question?”

Lafleur grinned. “Well, I wouldn’t want to get into that kind of talk, but, when you have a player of that caliber, so important to the organization, and when he has such high regard for some specialist, it would be foolish not to listen to him. That’s why I decided to talk to Tom and was impressed,” Lafleur responded.

Rodgers’ return will only become official when he signs his new contract, but it looks like that won’t belong in coming.

The Titans believe in Tannehill. But want to find him a young rival in the draft

“The Titans expect Ryan Tannehill to remain the starting quarterback for at least 2022. However, he threw three interceptions in a divisional-round playoff game against Cincinnati.

Tennessee management understands that sooner or later, they will have to get a quarterback for the future. Perhaps it will happen as early as the upcoming draft.

“The Titans have already held scouting convention meetings with Carson Strong of Nevada, Sam Howell of North Carolina, and plan to talk to Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati.

“There are times in drafts when it’s hard to reach quarterbacks – they leave in the top five. We want to find one that’s available to us. Even if he’s not a starter right away, we want to see him as a prospect,” Titans general manager John Robinson said.

Browns give Baker Mayfield another chance

Baker Mayfield will retain Cleveland’s starting quarterback for the 2022 season.

According to cleveland.com, representatives of the passer held a meeting with Browns management. The parties agreed that the quarterback would not sign a new contract in the offseason; he would play the 2022 season under the option of a fifth-year rookie contract and receive $18.8 million. This would give him a chance to prove that last season’s failures were solely due to injury.
